Santa’s Workshop

Santa Claus and his Yankton Morning Optimist Club elves invite you to experience Santa’s Workshop! Located in Yankton’s Dakota Territorial Capitol Replica within Riverside Park. This free family-focused event is a great way to celebrate the festive holiday season with your kids and grandkids.

What to expect:
🎄 Take your photo with Santa (no appointments needed, no photographer on site so bring your own phone/camera!)
🎄 Festive free refreshments
🎄 Holiday craft projects for kids
🎄 Outdoor train rides around Riverside Park
🎄 Outdoor Santa’s mailbox available all Christmas season

Santa’s Workshop will be open:
Saturday, December 9 from 3-7 pm
Sunday, December 10 from 10 am – 2 pm

 

Vermillion Standstill Parade of Lights

The 8th Annual Standstill Parade of Lights will be held in Historic Downtown Vermillion on Thursday, December 7th at 6:00 p.m. to officially kick off the holiday season.

Don’t miss seeing Santa Claus as he officially lights the Vermillion Christmas Tree. Come check out the floats designed by Vermillion businesses and organizations, see a performance by the Vermillion Area Dance Organization, and enjoy hot drinks and treats.

Following the tree lighting, Santa will be available for pictures at the Library—don’t forget to bring your camera!

 

Mount Marty Vespers

Join Mount Marty University to celebrate the start of the holiday season with the annual Vespers concert! The 41st annual Vespers Concert will take place on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Two performances will be held, one at 4:00 p.m. and one at 7:00 p.m. Preludes will begin at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. This year, Vespers will be held at Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel.

Between performances, everyone is invited to a reception in the Monastery Chapter Room sponsored by the Gregorian Fine Arts Association. 

 

Scotland Parade of Lights

Join the Scotland Chamber of Commerce for the Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 9th at 6pm. Line up at 5:30pm on Sixth Street. Order is first come, first serve.

 

Yankton Toys for Kids Program

Community-wide agencies, organizations and volunteers are partnering to make the holidays brighter this year through United Way of Greater Yankton’s annual Yankton Toys for Kids program.

Donations of new, unwrapped children’s toys are being accepted and can be dropped off now through December 15th at Yankton Rexall, Bomgaars, Kopetsky’s Ace Hardware or Menards in Yankton. After Black Friday, Walmart in Yankton will also have a collection box in store.

Don’t have time to shop? Monetary Donations are also being accepted at United Way, 920 Broadway Avenue, Suite 1, Yankton.

Visit with Santa

Join the Yankton HyVee on Saturday, December 16th for a meet and greet with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Visits will be from 9am-1pm.

 

Children’s Holiday Bash

Join the Vermillion Parks & Rec for the annual Children’s Holiday Bash! It will be on December 22nd from 9am – noon at the National Guard Armory. Enjoy crafts, bouncy house, prizes, music, movies, and games. This event is free for children ages 5-10!

Mead Museum Hall of Trees

Discover the magic of Christmas at the Mead Museum Hall of Trees from Friday, November 24 – Sunday, December 31! This year as you enter the historic 1909 Mead Building, you will encounter our Nutcracker themed foyer redesign by Forte of Yankton & the Angel Tree. While you sipping free hot cocoa & coffee, enjoy walking through the winter wonderland filled with over 50 trees decorated by local businesses & organizations along with special Christmas exhibits including historic trains & dolls.

Be sure to pick up a token at the Information Desk to vote for your Fan Favorite Tree and your Tree Bingo & Scavenger Hunt cards. Visit & take photos with Santa & Mrs. Claus on Sundays, December 3, 10, & 17 from 1 PM – 3 PM and during the Angel Tree Present Pick-up Celebration on Friday, December 22 from 1 PM – 3 PM.
