Chasing the 4 of Clubs

Support the Clay County Fair with the Chasing the 4 of Clubs Fundraiser. It’s a progressive 50/50 drawing chasing the 4 of Clubs. Tickets are sold at the Clay County Fair office daily and at select locations on Wednesdays. Two winners will be drawn each Wednesday at approximately 7:45 pm.  Two weekly winners will receive a $50 gift certificate to the host location and have a chance of drawing the 4 of Clubs at the Grand Finale and winning half of the total event pot. KYB Great American Cleanup

Join Keep Yankton Beautiful to work together and clean up the streets and green areas of Yankton! This annual event will take place on Saturday, April 27th at 9am. Individuals, businesses, civic organizations, church groups, families, and any other group interested in participating are invited to join for this event beginning at Memorial Park South Picnic Shelter.

Meet at Yankton’s Memorial Park South Picnic Shelter at 9 am to get your route assignment. Volunteers will receive garbage bags, plastic gloves, and a route for the cleanup. (BYO gloves if you have them!) Donuts and coffee will be available at the park. Route lengths and times vary and will be assigned based on ability and preferences. Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing.

The Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest community improvement program, taking place annually with over a half million volunteers participating within the hundreds of Keep America Beautiful affiliates nationwide.

National Trails Day

Join the the Yankton Meridian Bridge Centennial task force to celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, April 27th from 10am-noon. Start your adventure at the Yankton Territorial Capitol Replica building. There will be three tours to take part in. The staffed tour will take you up on to the historic Meridian Bridge to listen to four National Park Service Rangers talk about the bridge, the river, and the culture surrounding both. There will also be two self-guided tours available.

Plus, enter your name to win a Meridian Bridge Centennial prize package. The Centennial merchandise will be available that morning also. The two self-guided tours are recorded on sheets of paper so if you cannot do the tours that morning, you can take the papers and utilize them at your convenience. Sunday, April 28, will be the date if we should happen to have inclement weather on April 27.

 

Art Show

The YSD Art show and Science Olympiad team are paring up to provide visitors with great Artwork to view from K-12 students and Sacred Heart students as well as craft items, etc. to purchase from area vendors. The two events will be open simultaneously from 11am-4pm on Saturday, April 27. The event is Located in the south gym, hallway and cafeteria, of 2000 Mulberry. Front and back main doors will be open.

 

Missouri River Cleanup

Volunteer with Missouri National Recreational River (MNRR) by collecting litter and debris from the Missouri River at the annual Missouri River Cleanup event on May 4th from 8am to noon. Volunteers will meet and sign-in at the Riverside Park boat launch in Yankton. The majority of volunteers will be transported on boats by the National Park Service or other agency partners to collect litter at designated areas along the Missouri River. Other volunteers will stay in Riverside Park, picking up litter along the shoreline and/or unloading trash from returning boats.

By volunteering, you can help keep the river cleaner and healthier for people, fish, and wildlife, get a free Missouri River Annual Cleanup T-shirt, and get a free lunch as a thank you for all your hard work! Sign up in advance at www.volunteer.gov and click “Apply Now.”

 

Batting for Youth-Exhibition Baseball Game

Join the Yankton Morning Optimist Club for a great night of baseball on Monday, May 6th at Riverside Baseball Field. The exhibition baseball game will feature the Sioux Falls Canaries VS the Sioux City Explorers!

This annual Yankton Morning Optimists fundraiser provides funds to youth activities in our community.The game starts at 6:00 pm with the Youth Baseball Clinic and tailgating specials beginning at 4:30 pm.

Avera Race Against Cancer

The Avera Race Against Cancer is coming back to Yankton on Saturday, May 11th. The Avera Race is a run or walk in support of all cancer survivors. Every dollar raised here, stays here and provides vital treatment and care to cancer patients and families at the Avera Cancer Institute in Yankton.
