Simple Creatures’ live show will be a “rock show with an EDM production,” says Mark Hoppus

ABC/Paula LoboBlink-182‘s Mark Hoppus and All Time Low‘s Alex Gaskarth will make their live debut with their new band Simple Creatures in June at the U.K.’s Download festival. Speaking to Alternative Press, Hoppus describes how he and Gaskarth plan to bring their collaborative sound to the stage.

“Because Alex and I are just two people, and there’s points in the show where we’re both singing at the same time and tethered to microphones, the thought is to be a rock show with an EDM production,” Hoppus explains.

One thing the Simple Creatures live setup won’t have is a drummer, which will be unfamiliar for Hoppus, who’s spent most of his career with Travis Barker manning the kit.

“I’ve spent the last 20 years of my life with the best drummer on planet Earth sitting behind me hitting things and being a show all unto himself,” Hoppus says.

“To not have that there, I personally have had to approach the show completely differently and still make it interesting to watch,” he continues. “We have to make it rad.”

Simple Creatures will release their debut EP Strange Love on March 29. Meanwhile, Hoppus and Blink-182 are working on a new album, the follow-up to 2016’s California.
